On Monday, March 23, the first of two days dedicated to the Graduation Ceremony of the Master’s Programs in Healthcare at the University of Parma took place, marking the conclusion of the educational pathways for the 2024/2025 academic year. The morning session was dedicated to the First-Level Master’s in Critical Care Nursing, while the afternoon ceremony was held for the First-Level Master’s in Management of Healthcare-Associated Infection Risk.

Both sessions opened with welcome remarks by Prof. Antonio Bonacaro, Associate Professor of Nursing Sciences at the University of Parma and President of the Master’s Programs in Healthcare, who highlighted the value of the educational journey and the importance of the competencies developed by students within health and social care services. This was followed by a lecture delivered by Prof. Elena Giovanna Bignami, Full Professor of Anesthesiology, Intensive Care and Pain Medicine at the University of Parma, entitled “Interprofessionality and Patient-Centered Care: Added Value for a Competent, Compassionate and Contemporary Healthcare System?”. The lecture offered a reflection on the role of interprofessional integration and the importance of a person-centered approach in today’s healthcare systems.

The ceremonies continued with the awarding of diplomas to the students, a symbolic moment marking the achievement of an important academic and professional milestone. Representing the graduates, a student spokesperson shared a message reflecting on the experience of the Master’s program and highlighting the personal and professional growth achieved throughout the journey. The day concluded with the traditional group photos, an opportunity for sharing and celebration among students, faculty, and coordinators.

“This day represents not only the conclusion of an educational journey, but also the beginning of a new professional phase for our students, who are called to bring skills, responsibility, and core values into healthcare settings for the future of health and social care services”. — Antonio Bonacaro, Associate Professor of Nursing Sciences at the University of Parma and President of the Master’s Programs in Healthcare.

The next Graduation Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, March 27, with additional sessions planned both in the morning and in the afternoon to celebrate the completion of the remaining Master’s Programs in Healthcare.

MASTER’S PROGRAM IN CRITICAL CARE NURSING: RESPONDING TO EMERGENCIES WITH COMPETENCE AND RESPONSIBILITY

The First-Level Master’s Program in Critical Care Nursing, part of the Healthcare Masters at the University of Parma, is designed to train professionals with advanced skills in managing complex clinical situations, both in hospital and out-of-hospital settings. The program aims to develop specialized abilities to address high-intensity care needs, integrating technological tools, continuous outcome assessment methods, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Among the program’s distinctive objectives are: managing critical care pathways with a transdisciplinary approach, using technologies to support vital functions, advanced monitoring of critically ill patients, managing invasive and non-invasive ventilation, organizing protected intra- and extra-hospital transport, as well as relational aspects such as therapeutic education, effective communication, and care during end-of-life stages. The curriculum also includes project work, workshops, and internships at partner institutions.

The program lasts 13 months, awards 60 ECTS credits, and offers 100 places. Classes are delivered online in synchronous mode, with meetings held two days a week on alternating weeks.

The program will begin in March 2026. Applications are already open and will close on January 30, 2026, at 12:00 noon.

THE HEALTHCARE MASTER’S PROGRAMS AT THE CEU 2025 CONGRESS

From May 8th to 10th, 2025, the city of Rimini hosted the fourth edition of the CEU – Emergency and Urgency Culture Congress, promoted by the Emergency and Urgency Foundation (FEU). This nationally significant event was created with the aim of raising public awareness about emergency and urgent care issues, while fostering dialogue among healthcare professionals, institutions, and citizens to build a more responsive, cohesive, and sustainable healthcare system.

During the congress, the work carried out by students of the Master’s Program in Critical Care Nursing at the University of Parma was also presented. These projects were developed as part of their Project Work activities under the supervision of research tutors Dr. Elisa La Malfa, Dr. Maria Bertuol, and Dr. Fabio Mozzarelli.

The students’ contributions addressed key issues in improving emergency care, with a particular focus on strategies to optimize clinical practice. These projects are a clear demonstration of the Master’s Program’s educational quality, combining academic rigor with current professional relevance. Participation in CEU 2025 provided both meaningful recognition of the students’ efforts and a valuable opportunity to engage with a professional community dedicated to transforming the emergency care system.

Once again, the Healthcare Master’s Programs at the University of Parma reaffirm their role as hubs of innovation, preparing professionals equipped with the skills, vision, and collaborative spirit needed to meet the challenges of both today and tomorrow.
